Topics to be covered:

A large part of this workshop activity will focus on certain topics in Algebraic Graph Theory. These include the following:

  1. Beginning with spectral theory of graphs the following topics will be covered. Eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of a graph, basic properties, explicit description of the eigenvalues of special graphs such as the cycle and the path, combinatorial description of the determinant of the adjacency matrix, bounds involving the extreme eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix, energy of a graph, Stanley's result on the antiadjacency matrix, trees with nonsingular adjacency matrix.
  2. These results will be used to discuss the eigenvalue analysis of strongly regular graphs and the following topics will be covered. Strongly regular graphs, introduction and examples, characterizations, Latin square graphs, triangular graphs, Paley family of graphs and conference matrices and graphs, rationality conditions, friendship theorem, Moore graphs, Graphs of Ahrens and Szekeres type, eigenvalues and spectra of subconstituents, Local eigenvalues, Krein conditions, generalized quadrangles, lines of size 3, quasi-symmetric designs, Witt design on 23 points, regular 2-graphs, relative and absolute bounds on equiangular lines in  IR^n, Switching and strongly regular graphs, the 2-graph on 276 vertices.
  3. The third topic that will be covered is on the Laplacian of a graph and the following topics will be covered. Laplacian matrix, Matrix-Tree Theorem, Bounds on Laplacian spectral radius, Algebraic connectivity and classication of trees and Monotonicity of Fiedler vector and bounds on algebraic connectivity.
  4. The fourth topic is Probabilistic graph theory.

How to reach University of Pune

University of Pune is on the University Road, and it is about 5 km from the Main Railway Station and Main Bus stand.

The nearest Railway Station is Shivajinagar Railway Station (3km) and it is most convenient while coming from Mumbai side, but one should make sure that the train stops there. The  autorickshaw fare is about 10 times the meter reading.

From airport the University is about 16 km.

When one enters the university there are 2 roads, take the right road to go to Mathematics Dept. or to SET Guest House. Dept. of Math. comes first on this road on the left side, and it is a building  with Green Colour Fence.

To go to SET Guest House, one goes ahead and at the end turns to the left, to go near main Guest House.

The main Guest House is very near the main building (with Flag) and from the main Guest House, a road goes to IUCAA.

The SET Guest House is located on this road about 150 meters from main Guest House on the right side.
