How to reach Silchar?

Silchar, the second largest city of Assam in terms of population, is situated on the bank of river Barak in the southern part of Assam. It is almost 350 Km away from Guwahati and connected to other cities by road, rail and air.

  • Road connectivity:
    Daily bus services are there from Guwahati and Shillong to Silchar. It takes around 10 hours to reach Silchar from Guwahati and Six hours from Shillong by bus.
  • Rail connectivity:
    Direct trains are available from Guwahati, Agartala, Kolkata, Delhi and Trivandram (via Chennai) to Silchar.
  • Air connectivity:
    Silchar is connected to Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati by air.

 How to reach Assam University, Silchar (AUS)?

Assam University, a Central University established in the year 1994, is situated at a distance of around 20 Km from Silchar railway station. Vehicles are plying from the Cruiser Stand near Link road point, Silchar to AUS in every half an hour. The approximate fair is not more than Rs. 30. One can avail auto-rickshaws to reach Link road point from the railway station.
The distance of the university from airport is about 40 Km. Post-paid taxis are available from the airport. The approximate taxi-fair from airport to AUS will be Rs. 1000.
